A Trip to Harpers Ferry

This happened ages ago, but it was a beautiful trip and I've been meaning to post these for a while.  Danny and I visited Harper's Ferry in the spring, before things got hot and crowded again.  In some areas, we were the only people around, and that's our favorite way to explore :)

Located just twenty minutes from Boonsboro over the WV border, Harper's Ferry is the famous site of  John Brown's Raid in 1859. It was also founded by a guy with the last name Stephens :) and named after a man (Harper) who bought rights from Stephens and had a ferry service there.

The population is supposedly less than 300 people, the town is an odd little shape that juts out like an elbow into where the Potomac (flowing south) and the Shenandoah (flowing north) meet up and make their way to the sea.  It's a beautiful, historic, and charming little gem of a town.

I spent several hours there on my own while Danny was still at work, exploring the historical sites and museums.

Then he met up with me, we had an early dinner at Almost Heaven, and we walked through the town.

and over the railroad trestle that spans the Potomac.

(He has a thing for trains and tunnels *shrug*)

While my obsession was the beautiful little chapel at the top of town.  There were cool views of it from all over the town...

So finally we just had to climb the steps to the top and check it out up close...

No joke, this may be my favorite little chapel of all time.  And I've seen a LOT.

The town reminded me so much of St. Augustine.

Highly recommend this trip to anyone interested in history.  But definitely go in the early spring, the trees were blooming, it was sunny, but cool, and best of all--no crowds yet!

Life at Springfield Manor part 1

It never fails to amaze me how much stuff we've accumulated every time we move...  And though I weirdly kind of enjoy it, Danny is less ...
